Blog.

zekesfm asked:

Just out of curiosity, would you ever consider conforming all models to the same body to allow for greater outfit customisation? Obviously not an easy thing to implement, especially with certain models having three spine bones instead of four, but I really like the selection of clothing brought from MGSV (esp. Quiet) and Hitman, and would certainly appreciate having outfits of that type being easily applied to models such as Supergirl. I guess most people prefer canon proportions above all else.

mrsmugbastard answered:

More bodygroup variations are not worth turning all models into cookie cutter clones with different faces. As for Quiet’s stuff specifically it doesn’t even use the same skeleton, so even if you achieve matching proportions it won’t deform correctly.

Update

mrsmugbastard:

Due to recent events people’ve been asking us about what happens next.

First, about tumblr itself. We will try to remove “bad” images from our blogs, though given how laughably inaccurate content filters are there is no guarantee it will work.  Not out of love for the platform, but to keep existing links and posts up. Assuming blogs survive we will continue posting but don’t expect many images.

Second, we have DeviantArt accounts, where WIPs will be posted in proper detail.

MY DEVIANTART BLOG

RM’s DEVIANTART BLOG

Third, I updated PATREON with master list of our releases with links, The post is free for everyone and will be updated as new stuff releases. Patreon also has general news feed though more explicit images are patrons-only.

Fourth, a TWITTER ACCOUNT was created since many creators seem to be moving to that platform. Don’t expect very frequent updates, but everything important will be posted there, along with download links.

In general, don’t worry. While so called community guidelines changes caused unnecessary hassle they won’t affect what we are doing.

Anonymous asked:

Are you only creating models from people's votes? Or sometimes you decide what to port? Second question: As Starfire is down, is it time for Wonder Woman? Then possible Lara Croft from SOTTR/Harley Quinn?

mrsmugbastard answered:

Well, it’s a hybrid approach I guess. We make a list of potential candidates based on model availability and personal preferences and patreon vote helps us decide what should be a priority. For now yes, we are planning to go through the top 3 based on the number of votes.

Starfire (Initial Release)

FULL IMGUR GALLERY

The release contains:

- Main Starfire model

- 4 hairstyles (2 Ingame + 2 from Teen Titans)

- 4 eye skingroups, 2 hair colors (Starfire and Blackfire), several makeup options

- 3 ingame gear sets with exposed variations and Teen Titans outfit recreation

- Full amount of flexes and bones expected from our releases

- High resolution textures

What it doesn’t have:

- Rest of Injustice gear

- More outfit recreations from other media

- Casual clothing

- Flaming hair (there is a potential workaround but implementation is rather cumbersome)

Usage instructions:

- Download main archive and put the contents into your Source Fillmaker/Game folder (NOT usermod)

- Epic gear sets are implemented as presets for LordAardvark’s Outfit Loader. It’s highly recommended to install it from here:  SFMLab link. SF prefix means default Starfire skin, BF - Blackfire.

- To make hair and breast/butt bones poseable bake procedural bones on main nude mesh.

- Exposed variants are in Top and Lower bodygroup sections of starfireclothes.mdl.

- Due to engine quirk brightness of emissive textures scales with amount of lights. If you want brighter or dimmer look keep that in mind.

- Colored fingernails are implemented as part of Fingernails flex..

- To avoid graphical artifacts ensure you have postprocessing on before doing final renders.

So im a beginner at the nsfw side of 3D modeling, and im really interested in make my own props, environments and of course models. Just wondering if you could recommend a software, link, or if you wouldn't mind sharing your process.

mrsmugbastard answered:

That depends on what you define as “making”. If you mean sfm specific information this playlist is a good start https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZavzoXLqZCqyBxOY6ud0jGji7CQGHNew

For basic porting you’d only need blender and photoshop (maybe GIMP will work too, I am not really familiar with it). Easiest and the most versatile way to generate nude body is using DAZ studio.

If you want to create entirely custom assets and characters it gets much more difficult and skill requirements are significantly higher. Technically you can still use blender for everything, but you might need invest into more specialized tools like ZBrush/3DCoat for sculpting or Substance Painter/Quixel for 3D texturing

Update

mrsmugbastard:

Alright, I think we had enough drama and it’s time to wrap it up. Thanks to folks who provided their suggestions, they helped us to better determine next course of action.

I have three announcements to make.

1) The models will remain free and public

2) Patrons will decide the next nsfw model we make. Currently there’s vote on Patreon for $5+ tier supporters

3) In the case model with large amount of outfits wins (like f.e. any Injustice character) we’ll use a different release model. There will be an initial release containing only the main nude mesh and a few outfits. It will have all functionality expected from our releases (flexes, bones, high res textures etc) and be fully ready for posing/animation. The main difference there will be relatively few bodygroups/skingroups. If the model is received well more stuff will be added till eventual release of complete final version.

That’s all I have for now. Thanks for reading.

Anonymous asked:

Hello nice work with Kara and Karen, so who will you work on next Harley or Starfire first? And how long will either one of them that you might be working on right now take? Thanks.

mrsmugbastard answered:

They are currently on ice as I’m evaluating my options.

It’s been almost a year since I started Patreon and it’s time to discuss it. While it was a nice assistance with our porting endeavors now I have to admit it failed to fulfill its goal. Without any false modesty I can say the is nothing in SFM NSFW community that can approach both scope and quality of our releases. The downside is big - it takes obnoxious amount of time  (which leads to sidelined projects and opportunities) and making it is quite stressful.

Recent dual release of supergirl and power girl was a massive relief but also a massive disappointment. 1600+ likes, numerous reblogs and near unanimous praise resulted in pledge increase worth of 7 dollars. I understand people reducing or removing their pledges when there’s release drought, but having no real increase in support after letting public to download the ladies felt really disheartening. I wanted to avoid any kind of user exploitation and paywalls and give every sfm artist fair chance at using our works. Only testers got any kind of early access and they only had two requirements - no redistribution and thorough approach to testing. I wanted no huge banners and no annoying self advertisement at every step.  Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to work. I checked other model creator’s patreons and they are faring better. They have one thing in common though - paywalls.

I vowed to avoid them when i started the patreon and still would like to avoid. But there’s an unfortunate rule of human nature - people tend to not put real value in things they think they can always easily get for free. So I have to ask people who enjoyed our releases once again - put you money where your mouth is. If folks generally dislike our lengthy development cycles despite the generally positive feedback, that’s fair too I guess - but that means release model will have to be changed, and like with most changes there will be downsides for both us and for you,

Sorry if it felt too negative but that’s how i feel. Either way, thanks for reading.

SG prefix means default skin, SG2 - dark grey and red, SG3 - red and blue.

- To make hair and breast/butt bones poseable bake procedural bones on main nude meshes. For poseable capes and skirts bake procedural bones on outfit meshes, WARNING: baking will disable procedural bones on forearms too so it’s highly recommended to pose arms first.

- Fingernail colors are implemented as a part of Fingernails flex. To select a color push the slider left or right. Neutral position means uncolored nails.

- Casual hair works with both Supergirl and Power Girl, Otherwise due to difference in body shape outfits designed for SG are NOT compatible with PG and vice versa.

- To avoid graphical artifacts ensure you have postprocessing on before doing final renders.

- For rather obvious reasons space assets from supermove lack realistic uniform scale. You need to rescale them manually depending on the needs of your scene. You can increase slider range of scale controller above default 10x cap by right clicking on the slider and remapping slider range.
